A thoughtful restoration and reimagining of a circa 1830s Charleston single house, this project balances historic integrity with a refined approach to modern living. After uncovering extensive structural deterioration, the home was stripped back to reveal original heart pine framing, exposed masonry fireplaces, hand-hewn beams, and historic hardwood floors, each element informing the direction of the rehabilitation. Original architectural details were meticulously restored or replicated by hand, while contemporary interventions were introduced with restraint and reverence to preserve the home’s enduring Federal character.
Spanning three and a half stories and a full garden lot, the interiors merge contemporary traditional furnishings with layered color, soft neutrals, and tailored materiality. A richly color drenched drawing room, sculptural marble clad Botanical Kitchen, and oak vaneer paneling in the dining room reflect a balance of sophistication and casual livability for the home’s new stewards.
